Melody

Nestled in the heart of Kolkata, The Melody music store has been serving as a haven for music enthusiasts and  aspiring musicians alike.

This beloved music store on Rashbehari crossing, was established in 1938 by Sushil Kumar Chakraborty. With its diverse collection,
expert guidance, and commitment to musical education, The Melody Music Shop stands as a true testament to the city's love affair with music. The Melody houses two shops. While one sells LP records, CDs and cassettes, the other
shop offers a collection of musical instruments.

The shop boasts a remarkable range of musical instruments, from classical to contemporary, catering
to musicians of all  skill levels. Here, one can find
meticulously crafted pianos, guitars, violins, flutes, drums,
and many more. Each instrument carries a story of its
own, adorned with elegance and craftsmanship that
beckons musicians to explore their sonic potential. But it is the harmonium that has earned the shop a name in the
music industry.
The Melody has been a manufacturer
of harmoniums since its inception and is its main source
of income. The Melody music shop stands firmly rooted
in tradition, preserving the rich heritage of classical music
while also embracing the ever-evolving landscape
of contemporary sounds. The store proudly showcases
musical instruments that pay homage to the bygone era of Kolkata's illustrious musicians.

Simultaneously, it embraces the latest technology, offering cutting-edge electronic instruments and sound equipment to meet the demands of modern music production. Their LPs are among the reasons why The Melody has survived in the age of Spotify and YouTube. The demand for LP records and vinyls went up after the pandemic as more listeners sought the intimate listening experience of the bygone era, which is difficult to find in the digital age.

The Melody is more than just a store; it is a sanctuary for those who breathe, live, and dream music. It had customers from all over the country. Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Manna Dey, among others, have all been their patrons. The shop's commitment to providing quality musical instruments, guided assistance, and musical education has made it a cherished destination for musicians of all ages and skill levels.

Whether one seeks to learn, create, or simply appreciate the harmonies of life, The Melody music store continues to enrich Kolkata's musical heritage, preserving its melodic legacy for generations to come. So, for anyone seeking to unlock the enchanting world of music, The Melody music shop stands as an inviting gateway to a universe filled with endless possibilities of rhythm and melody.
